Denver Fun

  • Music fans? Check out the natural Red Rocks Amphitheater where many star performers (like Dave Mathew’s Band) have recorded live albums. The park is free and is located west on I-70 about 20 minutes from Denver. Enjoy this site in the afternoon, evening, or after sunset to see an amazing view of Denver. There are plenty of areas around to do a short hike and simply hang out among beautiful sights.Outdoor movies periodically play at Red Rocks; check out the free WestWord newspaper for info on shows playing and other local arts. www.westword.com

  • Visit a museum
    • Museum of Nature and Science: They also have an IMAX Theatre! To find out what’s showing at the IMAX call: 303-322-7009.
    • Colorado History Museum
    • Denver Art Museum
  • Hit the Slopes! There are tons of ski resorts within a 2-hour drive of Denver.  Equipment rentals are available at numerous locations in Denver.
  • Go Rafting!  Rafting is a great way to explore the mountains and enjoy the beautiful Colorado weather.  There are a ton of companies to choose from.
  • Wander down the 16th Street Pedestrian Mall, full of fun shops and restaurants. Located just off Broadway and 16th Ave.

  • Cheer on the Rockies baseball team at Coors Field. Coors Field is a beautiful park located in Lower Downtown. Rock Pile seats are only $4.00 and available one hour before the game!

  • Take an afternoon tour of the capitol or get a free tour of the US Mint.
    • Call (303) 405-4759 to schedule for a group of 15 or more. For groups fewer than 15, contact your congressional representative at least 3 weeks in advance.

  • Go to the mountains for an evening hike. A great place to go hiking is Chautauqua Park near Boulder, which includes the Flat Irons hiking and climbing area. The drive is about 30 minutes from Denver, if it is not rush hour traffic. Check-out Red Rocks or visit Look-Out Mountain and see a great view of the Front Range.

  • Head to Boulder. Check-out Pearl Street! Pearl St. has great live entertainment including street performers from all over the country and the world, fun stores, and amazing restaurants.

  • Have a picnic in the park! Don’t forget to bring a Frisbee, a football, or other games. Two great parks: 1) Washington Park (Wash Park to locals), located along Downing St. between Virginia and Louisiana Ave. 2) City Park, located just North of Colfax along 17th Ave between York and Colorado Blvd. Or, check out Denver Park and Recreation for parks near your housing church. www.denvergov.org/parksandrecreation
